Buying guide
Choosing a new bathroom is often an exciting project, and it naturally raises a lot of questions. From delivery times and VAT rules to material choices and brands, our advisors deal with a wide range of customer inquiries every day from people looking to create their dream bathroom. In this article, we answer the 10 most common questions so you can start your project well prepared.

1. I don’t have an installer yet. Can I still order through Facq?

As a private customer, you can visit our EXPO centers for inspiration and advice—you can browse products, feel the materials, and more. However, placing an actual order is only possible through an installer. But don’t worry! For customers who haven’t chosen an installer yet, we launched a new service: Install+.

With Install+, your personal Facq advisor provides a complete cost estimate, including installation. Afterwards, they connect you with reliable installers experienced with Facq products. You then decide who will handle your installation. This way, everything is taken care of, and you can enjoy your new bathroom in no time.

2. How much does a bathroom renovation cost?

The cost of a full bathroom renovation depends on several factors, such as the size of your space, brand and material choices, and the level of finishing. Thanks to Install+, we can now give you a clearer picture of the total cost upfront, including the installation of the products you’ve selected.

Tip: A consultation with one of our advisors is completely free and without obligation. Curious about what’s possible within your budget? Visit an EXPO center near you today!

3. What about the 6% or 21% VAT on bathrooms?

In Belgium, bathroom renovations often qualify for the reduced 6% VAT rate, but certain conditions must be met:
• The property must be older than 10 years.
• Delivery and installation must be carried out by the same contractor.
• The property must be used as a private residence (less than 50% used for business purposes).

If you purchase materials without installation, or if your property is less than 10 years old, the standard 21% VAT rate applies.

  • 4. What is the delivery time for a bathroom?

The delivery time for a bathroom depends on several factors, such as the chosen brands, finishes, customizations, and whether the products are in stock. On average, you can expect 3 to 8 weeks, but for custom or special-color items, it may take longer.

Tip: Facq has the largest stock in Belgium. Do you urgently need a specific product? Our advisors are happy to help you find which items are available for fast delivery.
  • 5. Should you choose a bathtub or a shower?

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer to this question. Whether a bathtub or shower is best depends on your available space, family situation, and personal preferences:
    • Shower: Ideal for smaller bathrooms, quick and user-friendly, and water-saving if you don’t stay under it for 15 minutes. However, it may not be the most practical option for young children.
    • Bathtub: Comfortable, family-friendly, and perfect for relaxing. The downside is that it uses more water and requires time to fill and enjoy.

Tip: Still unsure? A bath-shower combination might be the perfect solution. Don’t hesitate to ask our advisors about the available options!

6. I have a small bathroom. Is an open shower still possible?

Yes! An open shower is perfectly feasible and even very popular in a small bathroom. Choosing a smart walk-in shower with a fixed glass panel can make the space feel larger. Proper drainage, a non-slip floor, and sufficient ventilation are essential.

Tip: The choice of showerhead is also important here. Our advisors can recommend showerheads that minimize splashing.

7. Are built-in faucets (for shower and basin) more prone to leaks? And what if a problem occurs later?

When installed correctly, built-in faucets are not more prone to leaks than exposed faucets. Our range meets the strictest standards and consists of durable, corrosion-resistant products thoroughly tested in the factory for pressure and watertightness.

The biggest risk factor is installation, not the product so always have it done by a professional. If a problem occurs later, major demolition is usually not necessary. With high-quality built-in faucets, cartridges, seals, and control elements are easily accessible through the trim plate.

8. Are colored faucets easy to maintain?

Colored faucets such as black, gold, or copper give your bathroom a unique look and are extremely popular right now. They don’t necessarily require more maintenance than chrome versions, but proper care is essential. Faucets with a high-quality PVD coating are resistant to wear and fading, and, just like chrome, they will stay beautiful for years when cleaned with mild soap and a soft cloth.

  • 9. What are the differences in materials for showers, bathtubs, and basins?

Different materials are used for bathtubs, showers, and basins, and each has its own advantages in terms of maintenance, appearance, and price. The most common materials on the market are:
    • Acrylic: Lightweight, budget- and maintenance-friendly, and always pleasantly warm to the touch. More prone to scratches, but these can easily be repaired yourself.
    • Ceramic: Very low-maintenance and durable, with a moderate price.
    • Solid surface / composite: Sleek design, warm to the touch, strong and robust, and very low-maintenance. Slightly higher in price.
    • Enamelled steel: Extremely scratch- and heat-resistant, very hygienic, and retains heat well. Ideal for bathtubs.
  • 10. Should I hire a professional, or can I install it myself?

Of course, you can decide to install your bathroom yourself, but proper preparation and correct installation by a professional greatly reduce the risk of problems later on. Technical installations, such as plumbing and electrical work, are not easy and require specific knowledge and expertise. Fixing issues afterward is often more expensive than working with a professional from the start.

Tip: As we mentioned earlier, you can often benefit from the reduced 6% VAT rate when working with a certified installer. Peace of mind and a discount – definitely a win-win!
