The water softener: a precious ally
Certain impurities can cause limescale deposits on our appliances, reduce the effectiveness of our cleaning products and even affect the softness of our skin and hair. This is where water softeners come in, and there are several types:
- Ion exchange resin softeners: These devices use resins to exchange calcium and magnesium ions for sodium ions. This is the most common type, often referred to as a "salt softener" because they require salt to regenerate the resins.
- Magnetic softeners: These devices use magnets to modify or disrupt the structure of the minerals in the water, thus preventing the formation of limescale deposits.
- Electronic softeners: Similar to magnetic softeners, these use electric fields to treat hard water.
